Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt are scheduled to play today at the Rod Laver Arena. It’s a 4th Round match between the World No.1 and the former World No.1 and local hero.

Federer vs Hewitt is one of the most expected matches produced by the 2010 Australian Open draw so far. It might be Hewitt’s best chance to try and win his home Grand Slam. Since he recovered from injury, the Australian has never really managed to get anywhere near another Grand Slam title.

Federer with problems in opening match – AO 2010 – Day 2

federer australian open 2010 Roger Federer had unexpected problems with Igor Andreev in his opening match at the Australian Open 2010. The World No.1 played at a lower level and allowed the Russian to grab the first set 6-4, after leading with a break.

In general the entire match was filled with breaks of serve. Roger recovered fast and stepped up a gear to win second set, 6-2. The third one was really tight with numerous breaks for each side. Andreev ended up with 3 set points, on serve. He failed to grab them hitting 3 unforced errors.

Federer grabbed the last break of the set to send it into a tiebreaker, which he comfortably won. Andreev collapsed in the 4th set both mentally and physically, to surrender 0-6.

Day 2 did not provide any major upsets. All seeds went trough to the next round, both in the Men’s as in the Women’s Singles tournaments. Read more

roger federer ao2010 practice Roger Federer was spotted practicing at the Rod Laver Arena for the first time since his arrival in Melbourne. The Swiss Champion prepared today for his run at edition 2010 of the Australian Open.

The World Number 1 comes into this first Grand Slam event of the season after a rather weak start of the 2010 season. Roger first played in the exibition tournament played on Abu Dhabi. He entered the competition in the semifinal match, but lost his first encounter of the year against, Swede, Robin Soderling.

Federer played his first official tournament of the season in Doha, the Quatar Open. There he managed a flawless run until the semifinals where he lost in straight sets to Nikolay Davydenko, who went on to win the tournament after defeating Rafael Nadal in the final. Read more
