Roger Federer won last week his home tournament, the Basel ATP 500 event. Surprisingly this is only Federer’s 2nd title in 2011. It is his worst ATP season in 8 years. As a result he will finish outside of the top 2 at the end of the year, which never happened since 2004. Nishikori was a surprise appearance in this final, after defeating World No.1 Novak Djokovic. Djokovic defends ATP Dubai title
Novak Djokovic defended last weekend his Dubai Championships title. It is the first time when the Serbian star manages back to back wins at an important ATP tournament.
Djokovic is currently ranked No.2 in the world, hist best ranking ever, obtained after January’s, Australian Open. Novak defeated Russian player, Mikhail Youzhny, on Sunday to conquer his first title of the season, the 2010 ATP Dubai crown.
It was a highly disputed 3 set Final. Djokovic won the first set, 7-5. Youzhny managed to level the score after winning the second act with a similar score. Read more
Baghdatis triumphs against Gasquet to win Sydney Open
Marcos Baghdatis won the Sydney Open after a straight sets, 6-4,7-6, success against a comeback player, Frenchman, Richard Gasquet.
The Cypriot recorded his 4th ever tournament win managing to win 4 out of the 8 finals he ever played.
The Sydney Open final started with Baghdatis controlling the encounter and winning the first set 6-4. The second part of the match was interrupted by rain.
Gasquet managed to take an impressive 4-1 lead, but Baghdatis came back to level at 4-4. The set was decided at the tiebreaker won comfortably by the Cypriot, 7-2. Read more
