Roddick defeats Stepanek for Brisbane title
Andy Roddick won the Brisbane International tennis tournament earlier today. The 27-year-old American came back from a knee injury this week. It’s his first event after a 3 months long break from the ATP tour.
Roddick obtained a straight sets win against Radek Stepanek. The first set was balanced and the two players decided it in a tiebreaker. Andy hold his nerves and raced to win 7-2 and grab the opening set.
Roddick continued his great run and broke Stepanek twice, early in the second set and climbed to a 4-0 lead. The Czech player kept his nerves and managed to tie Roddick at 5-5. Everyone had an odd feeling to see the American ace lose a 4-0 lead, especially after continuing to hit big serves.
The second set went also into a tiebreak. Things seemed similar to the previous one. Roddick raced to a 6-1 lead but Stepanek found the resources to win 6 points in a row and obtain a set point. A nasty double allowed Roddick to close the match and win the Brisbane title.
Both player are now heading for Melbourne to prepare for the first Grand Slam event of the season.
