Rafael Nadal 6-4,6-2,6-4 Robin Soderling Highlights

Rafael Nadal has won his 5th Roland Garros title. This is his 7th Grand Slam trophy of his career and a special success. The Spaniard has managed to win his first Grand Slam title after last year’s knee injuries which severely affected his results in the 2009 season.

Nadal has regained his ATP No.1 spot after this French Open success, also profiting from Roger Federer’s early quarter-final exit.

Robin Soderling is the player who confirmed that he plays his best tennis on the French Open clay courts. The Swede has managed to play two back-to-back Roland Garros finals, losing both of them in front of the best players of the world, which he proved that he can easily defeat.

Soderling won in 4 sets against Rafael Nadal at the 2009 French Open and is the only player ever to defeat the Spaniard at the Roland Garros. Robin went on to play last year’s final against Roger Federer. He lost it in 3 sets. Same Soderling managed almost the same run at the 2010 French Open. He defeated Federer in 4 sets in their quarter-final clash, to lose the final against Nadal, also in straight sets.

Nadal controlled the entire encounter. It was one more straight sets French Open Final, the third in a row since 2008. Rafa won the first set 6-4. It proved to be the most balanced set of the final, as Soderling lost hos confidence and gave up the second 2-6. The third was a simple formality and Nadal went on to lift the trophy after a second 6-4.
