rafael nadal serving Rafael Nadal made his first appearance of 2010 at the Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday. The Australian Open title defender seemed sharp as usual.

Rafa appeared in a red top, white shorts and light gray shoes, everything manufactured by Nike. The Spaniard practiced his serve, the volleys and of course his baseline shots.

Nadal had a great start to the 2010 season. He first won an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, defeating Robin Soderling in the final. Next he played remarkably at the Quatar Open in Doha, where he qualified for the final without losing a set. The perfect run ended in the last match of the tournament as he lost against Nikolay Davydenko.

It was an unusual defeat for Rafa. He won the first set 6-0 and had 2 match points in the second. Eventually he lost it 6-7. Next he lead 3-1 and had 2 break points in the decider, to end up losing it 4-6.

Rafa’s fans should not worry to much. Everything until the Australian Open can be considered warm-up. In fact Nadal started season 2009 worse, as he lost the Abu Dhabi final and failed to rich the final in Doha. Considering that he went on to win the Aussie Open, this year he should fly trough without any major problems.
