Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-1 Roger Federer 2013 Rome Masters Highlights

Rafael Nadal builds on his impressive comeback after 7 month of injury and wins his 6th title out of 8 tournaments played. He managed to qualify to the Final stage in all events that he participated, losing only his first and 5th Final to Horacio Zeballos, in Vina del Mar and Novak Djokovic, in Monte Carlo. Rafa wins the 2013 Rome Masters title after a highly anticipated showdown against his oldest rival, Roger Federer.

The Spaniard had a great tournament and defeated the likes of Ernests Gulbis, David Ferrer or Tomas Berdych on his Road to the Final. This is Rafa’s 3rd Masters Series 1000 title of the year after the one in Indian Wells and Madrid.

The Rome Masters Final was heavily one-sided with Rafa taking control after Roger’s second service game. He won all games to clinch the opening set 6-1. He then got a double break in the 2nd to server for the match at 5-1. Federer managed to reduce the difference and recovered a break, forcing Nadal to serve for the match at 5-3. The Spaniard did not miss this second opportunity and grabbed the glory.

Nadal has now climbed one spot in the ATP rankings. His back in the big four just above fellow Spaniard David Ferrer. Rafa aims next to defend his Grand Slam title in Paris. Nadal can improve his record and win a historic 8th Roland Garros Championship. The French Open starts on May 16 and ends on June 9. We will cover the event for you. Until then you can enjoy the highlights of the 2013 Rome Masters Final. In fact, I managed to get the full match version which is available in the above embedded Youtube video.
