David Ferrer 4-6 4-6 7-5 7-6 6-2 Nicolas Almagro Highlights

Spaniard David Ferrer is the first player that wins a Semifinal ticket for the 2013 Australian Open Men’s Singles tournament. It was a battle royale today at the Rod Laver Arena between the World No. 5, future World No.4 and his countryman seed No. 10, Nicolas Almagro.

Almagro was set to produce the upset and only the likes of Ferrer could recover from 0-2 down and being obviously dominated on court. Nicolas controlled the match until the end of the 4th set, but somehow managed to lose the encounter. He started strongly and won the first two sets 6-4, stunning Ferrer.

David seemed to have no chance today, against his lower ranked companion as Almagro continued to dominate in the 3rd and 4th sets. Ferrer escaped once in the 3rd as Nicolas was serving for the match one one would have thought that he wouldn’t repeat this twice one set later. He did it and managed to won the tiebraker 7-5. This was the point when the match truly shifted, as Almagro experienced physical problems, holding his hamstring and showing an obviously restricted court movement.

Ferrer is a survivor and he did not wait to much to grab the win, 6-2 in the final set. However, David should return soon to his best tennis as Djokovic qualified to meet him in the semis. The bottom half of the table will decide its semifinalist tomorrow they can either be Andy Murray or Jeremy Chardy and Roger Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
