Novak Djokovic 5-7 3-6 Rafael Nadal Rome Masters Final – Full Match Video

Rafael Nadal regains his Rome Masters crown after a precious straight sets win against arch rival and actual World No.1, Novak Djokovic. It’s the 2nd win of the year for the Spaniard against a man that defeated him in 7 Finals in a row during 2011 and the start of 2012. It’s true that both of Rafa’s wins where registered on clay but the general feeling is that Nadal has learned to work around Djokovic’s syle and we can only wait for some more Finals between the two best tennis players of the moment.

Nadal had a great week in Rome, demolishing all his opponents on his road to the Final. First serious resistance that he met was David Ferrer in the semis. However, Nadal faced serious problems only during the first set, that was decided in his favor, after a tiebreaker. Ferrer losing his grip and dropping the second set to love.

Nadal also controlled Monday’s Final. Yeah, that’s right, the 2012 Rome Masters Final was delayed for Monday because of heavy rain that poured down at the Foro Italico on Sunday. The organizers just found enough gaps between the showers to complete the Women’s Singles Final, won by Maria Sharapova with incredible drama.

The Final was balanced during the first set, although Nadal managed a break to go 3-2 in front. Nole got the re-break very fast and they went head-to-head to until 5-5. Djokovic had a few unforced errors on his 6th service game and Nadal managed to close the set.

The Spaniard broke fast in the 2nd set and hold the break until 5-3 when he broke again to close the match with a relieving win. Remember, that many considered Rafa’s triumph in Monte Carlo not clear with Nole claiming that he couldn’t focus for the Final because of the death of his grandfather.

Nadal, although still a 2nd seed, is the obvious favorite to win a 7th French Open title. The next Grand Slam is knocking at the door. Visit us for highlights and news from the 2012 Roland Garros in the days to come.
