Novak Djokovic 1-6 7-5 6-4 6-7 12-10 Stanislas Wawrinka – AO 2013 Video Highlights

The most exciting match of the 2013 Australian Open until the Quarterfinals stage, surly was the 4th Round battle between World No. 1, Novak Djokovic and seed No.15 Stanislas Wawrinka. The Serb was tested seriously during a 5 hour and 5 minutes epic encounter. It was in fact the 4th longest match in Australian Open history. We where inches away from a huge upset that could have cost Nole the ATP lead.

Stan had an impressive start and rushed to win the first set 6-1, stunning Djokovic. Nole failed to recover and saw himself 5-2 down in the 2nd. However, he managed somehow to turn things around and grabbed the set 7-5 to level the score. The two went head to head in the 3rd set until Wawrinka crumbled and lost his serve at 4-4 to offer Nole the chance to serve it out. The Serb completed the task and was one set away from winning the Quarterfinal ticket.

Wawrinka did not give up and pushed the 4th set to a Tiebreaker, which he won 7-5 and sent the match to a decider. You might have thought that we where experiencing a thriller, but the thriller was only starting. Wawrinka breaks in the first game of the 5th set only, to lose his advantage the following game. They go again head to head and without any tiebreaker available, every game from the 4-4 score is a mini-thriller. Crowd and entire audience was delighted.

One feels that Wawrinka would have deserved the win. I do feel the same, however his brief moments of negligence made him lose a match,

“The best match of my career”

as he said after the encounter had ended.
