nikolay davydenko photo Nikolay Davydenko managed an incredible comeback to win the Qatar Open Final. The Russian upset World Number 2, Rafael Nadal, after a thriller final at the Exxon Mobile Open.

Nadal started the match impressive and was up 4-0 on the scoreboard by the 14th minute of the match. The Spaniard continued to play impressive tennis as he did the whole year, so far, and nailed the first set 6-0 after half an hour of play.

Rafa won his 7th game out of 7 to open 2nd set with a 1-0 lead. It’s true that the opening game of the second set lasted 13 minutes, but there where no signs for what was about to happen.

Davuydenko managed to enter the final and found himself up 5-3 in the 2nd set after a strong performance. Rafa wanted to end the evening fast, fought on and broke back. The two players showed some impressive tennis full of ups and downs. Finally the 2nd set ended with a tiebreak. Rafa missed to complete 2 match points, before allowing Davydenko to win the set and send the match into the decider.

Nadal woke up in the 3rd set, broke the Russian’s serve, was up 3-1 and had 2 more break points to achieve a decisive 4-1 lead. This is when Davydenko played his 2nd comeback of the night. More, he broke Nadal once again to win the Qatar Open, 6-4 in the decider.

It was a 2 hour and 45 minutes long thriller, yet another epic tennis final. Congratulations to both players and good luck to them for the 2010 Australian Open edition.
