federer denied by davydenkoNikolay Davydenko produces the surprise in Doha. The Russian defeated Roger Federer, just 2 minutes ago, for a place in the Exxon Mobile Open final.

Davydenko won in straight sets, 6-4/6-4 to deny Federer another meeting with his arch rival, Rafael Nadal. The Russian broke Federer’s serve early in the first and second sets. He managed to hold serve and win the semifinal rather easily.

Nikolay is at his 2nd win in a row over the Swiss, World Number 1. The previous success was registered at the end of 2009, during the ATP Tour Finals played in London. Davydenko went on to win the Tour Finals, will he manage the same in Doha?

The Russian meets Rafael Nadal this weekend in the big final and the Spaniard seems to be strong favorite to win his first official tournament after last year’s long series of injuries.
