Rafael Nadal has lost his chance of completing the ‘Rafa’ Slam after losing to fellow Spaniard, David Ferrer in the 2011 Australian Open QuarterFinals. Rafa suffered from a left thigh strain, right from the start of the match. He refused to give up and played the match in agony. Ferrer kept his cool and was able to close it in straight sets, although at some point it looked that he has problems even, with an injured Nadal. Read more
2010 Australian Open Finals
The 2010 Australian Open ended with two blockbuster Singles Finals.
The Women played first, on Saturday, January 30. Serena Williams, the defending title holder, and Justine Henin clashed at a sold out Rod Laver Arena. The tennis was excellent and the fans completed it. It ended up to be a 3 set thriller with ups and downs for both players.
Serena won the first set and was very close of snatching the second set to complete a successful title defense. However, Justine, playing only her 11th official match after returning to her professional tennis career, stepped up a gear and won the second act, 6-3.
Williams got the better of Henin in the decider and won the 2010 Australian Open Women’s Singles Final, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Read more
Justine Henin defeats Petrova to reach AO Semifinals
Justine Henin reached the 2010 Australian Open semifinals after a solid performance against Russia’s, Nadia Petrova. The former World No.1 is on course for a dream comeback as she battles on for the Aussie Open title.
Henin dominated the match from the beginning. Petrova offered a strong reply and ceased the first set only after a tiebreak battle lost, 3-7.
Petrova, seeded 19, started the 2nd set strongly to obtain a 3-0 lead. Everyone expected a decider as Henin used us after her previous round matches. However, the Belgian star dug deep and came back on serve at 4-4. She eventually won the set 7-5, to grab her Semifinal ticket. Read more
Federer vs Hewitt Live Australian Open Coverage
Federer vs Hewitt Live
Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt are scheduled to play today at the Rod Laver Arena. It’s a 4th Round match between the World No.1 and the former World No.1 and local hero.
Federer vs Hewitt is one of the most expected matches produced by the 2010 Australian Open draw so far. It might be Hewitt’s best chance to try and win his home Grand Slam. Since he recovered from injury, the Australian has never really managed to get anywhere near another Grand Slam title.
Lleyton Hewitt finished No.1 for 2 years in a row before losing his ranking and shape because of several injuries. He won 2 Grand Slam events in his career, the 2001 US Open and the 2002 Wimbledon Championships. Read more
Andy Murray the British Cruiser – A02010 – Day 3
Andy Murray cruised into the 3rd Round of the Australian Open. The British Cruiser had no problems at all in defeating Frenchman, Marc Gicquel.
Murray won in straight sets and has proved an impressive form so far at the Australian Open 2010. Andy was determined to keep things under control at the Margaret Court Arena. He rocketed to a 6-1 first set win, before clinching the remaining to 6-4 and 6-3.
Rafael Nadal was another favorite to play today in the 2nd Round. The Spaniard had an easier job as his first round encounter. He defeated Slovak Lukas Lacko in straight sets mirroring a 6-2 advantage.
Elena Dementieva and Justine Henin played the Women’s match of the day at the Melbourne Park. The two stars collided in this early round because the Belgian former No.1 wasn’t seeded for this tournament. Henin did not have a WTA ranking coming into the Australian Open. Read more
