Murray won in straight sets and has proved an impressive form so far at the Australian Open 2010. Andy was determined to keep things under control at the Margaret Court Arena. He rocketed to a 6-1 first set win, before clinching the remaining to 6-4 and 6-3.

Rafael Nadal was another favorite to play today in the 2nd Round. The Spaniard had an easier job as his first round encounter. He defeated Slovak Lukas Lacko in straight sets mirroring a 6-2 advantage.

Elena Dementieva and Justine Henin played the Women’s match of the day at the Melbourne Park. The two stars collided in this early round because the Belgian former No.1 wasn’t seeded for this tournament. Henin did not have a WTA ranking coming into the Australian Open.

Dementieva is one of the most in shape players of the moment, however she where unlucky to draw Henin as early as the 2nd round. The encounter was highly balanced. The first could have gone either way and had numerous turnovers and breaks of serve. Henin won it eventually 7-5. The second set was even more tighter.

Henin won this one too at the tiebreaker, 8-6, to advance to the 3rd round of the competition.

Other seeds like Kim Clijsters, Dinara Safina, Victoria AzarenkaWo and Caroline Wozniacki easily won their matches to advance to the 3rd and 2nd rounds of the tournament.

Blake and Del Potro played the match of the day in the Men’s Singles competition. They ended up playing a 5 sets epic battle. The 2009 US Open Champion won the first set 6-4, to lose the next ones 6-7,5-7. Del Potro eventually recovered and won 6-3 and 10-8 in the decider.

Day 3 had other memorable moments, like the 5 set battle played in the last encounter of the day at the Rod Laver Arena. Marin Cilic defeated local youngster Bernard Tomic after a highly exciting clash that went well into the morning.
