Andy Murray and Laura Robson lose the Hopman Cup Final

andy murray and laura robson Andy Murray and Laura Robson had a great run at the Hopman Cup. This is a mixed tournament played between teams representing different countries. The event started with a group stage and continued with the semifinals and finals. The first 2 teams ranked in each group qualified to the knock-out rounds. Each group was formed by 4 teams and the tournament was build by 2 groups.

Andy Murray and youngster Laura Robson managed a surprise qualification up to the final stage of the Hopman Cup. They played today against Spain for the big trophy. Martinez Sanchez and Tommy Robredo paired for the Spanish squad.

The first encounter of the final was the Men’s Singles match. Murray started perfectly and won the first set 6-1. However he, inexplicably, lost the control of the match, gave away the next 2 sets and handed Spain a 1-0 lead.

Laura Robson equalized for England after an incredible performance against the World Number 26. She won in straight sets 6-1/7-6 and everything was decided by the Mixed Doubles match.

Spain won the Hopman Cup after a straight sets win in the doubles encounter. Sanchez and Robredo won 7-6(8-6/7-5).

2010 might be Laura Robson’s boom year. What do you think?
