australian open 2010 seeds The seeds for edition 2010 of the Australian Open have been published. Both Men’s and Women’s seeds lists contain the best ranked players in the world.

Seeds are used at the draw for the Grand Slam’s main table. The seeding system prevents top players from colliding in the early rounds of the tournament. This means that the top seeds will have the chance to meet only in the second week of the Open starting with the quarter-finals. No one from the top 4 seeds can meet earlier as the semifinals.

Roger Federer is the top sed of the Men’s Singles tournament, while defending champion, Serena Williams, is seeded no. 1 in the Women’s race.

Rafael Nadal, the defending title holder of the Men’s tournament, is the second seed of this year’s tournament. This means that if both Federer and Nadal win their matches, we could assist to yet another epic final at the Rod Laver Arena.

The situation is somehow similar in the Women’s tournament, with Dinara Safina seeded no. 2, there is a good chance of last year’s final to be repeated in case both players reach the last act of the tournament. However, this season Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova are back in the game.
